ABOUT
MINTMAN Mintman alias Carsten Mortensen was born in the town
of Holbæk in Denmark. He takes an interest in music at an early
age and started playing the guitar and composing his own music.
In the late 1970s he gets a recording deal with the children’s
rock band Knasterne and they manage to record two albums before
they part in the mid-1980s.
After this Carsten Mortensen is quickly fascinated by the possibilities
of the modern recording studio and he starts to work closely with
prominent people such as SoulShock and Cutfather in the so-called
Studio Farm in Holbæk.
ABOUT THE MUSIC At the beginning of the 90s, Carsten who
now calls himself MINTMAN leaves Holbæk and moves to Copenhagen
– he goes to the big city in order to find inspiration.
He builds a studio and forms the party band Pass The Butter, a
band that for a number of years take on many of the famous venues
in Copenhagen. But MINTMAN’s interest in music change directions
from funk-music to R&B.
At a concert with Pass The Butter he meets a singer. Her name is
Monia, she is half Faroese and half Moroccan and she turns out to
be exactly what MINTMAN had been looking for – a natural talent
who is able to complete “the MINTMAN sound” and his amazing ability
to compose strong tunes.
ABOUT THE ALBUM "COMPOSER’S KITCHEN". MINTMAN is signed
to the world’s largest record company Universal Music and in May
2000 the single “Sleeping Around” is ready to conquer the Danish
radio stations.
The single becomes “the unavoidable track of the week” and after
that it is in the top of the official Danish airplay chart. The
album Composer’s Kitchen is released in September and with it's
incredible international sound it underlines MINTMAN’s massive talent.
The album contains 11 tracks all written by MINTMAN and the lyrics
are created in close co-operation with Monia and the American song-writer
Tina Harris. The album is of course produced, arranged and recorded
by MINTMAN himself.
ABOUT THE FUTURE In December 2000 MINTMAN is nominated
to the Danish national radio’s award called the Pop Shop Award and
in January 2001 it becomes a reality in that MINTMAN is nominated
to a Danish Music Award (equivalent to a Grammy) for the Best R&B
Album of the Year.
In the autumn 2000 the international business card that MINTMAN
has created by means of the single Sleeping Around bears fruit.
MINTMAN is contacted by the legendary American rapper LL COOL J
who asks him to do a remix of his latest single.
MINTMAN’s R&B remix will be released world-wide on 29 January
2001 but it has already aroused excitement around the world. Whatever
the future and the world have in store for MINTMAN is difficult
to predict, and it is without any doubt that MINTMAN has made a
fantastic name for himself in the rest of the world
